Lindsay Lohan Accuses Couple of Human Trafficking

Lindsay Lohan went live on Instagram Saturday, September 29th, and posted a video of what was perhaps a well-intentioned encounter that went horribly wrong. Upon seeing a family that appeared homeless, Lohan jumped out of her car and rushed to the rescue. In the video, she is seen recording in selfie-mode, sounding inebriated as she mumbles in English, Arabic, and Russian to the family while waving her phone in their faces. Lohan apparently believed the family of four were Syrian refugees as they sat huddled under a blanket on the street. The family smiles back at first, but says nothing back, making it unclear whether or not they understand her.

She initially insists on taking the boys and putting them up in a hotel room to watch movies and play video games, but when the mother refuses, Lohan offers to take the whole family, then immediately changes her mind take just the mother and the sons. After about seven minutes the family stands and gathers their things, which Lohan takes as an indication that they are accepting her charity. Unfortunately for her, they are just trying to get away from her.

The video then cuts to her following the family and yelling after them, accusing the parents of human trafficking. She calls out, "I won’t leave until I take you. Now I know who you are. Don’t f**k with me." Lohan then drops her phone, which viewers assumed was due to the mother slapping the star in the face. The video ends with Lohan alone, crying. It is unclear whether the incident took place in Paris or Moscow.

Lohan is only 32 years old but has a lengthy and cringeworthy history of bizarre moments in the public eye. She has been arrested multiple times for shoplifting and driving under the influence. Her acting career quickly hit a standstill and it seemed like the only time her name came up was when a new mugshot was released. Rock bottom hit when she was sentenced to jail in 2010 for violating her probation.

However, just last June she presented herself as a new, European businesswoman and that her wild, partying lifestyle was a thing of the past. In her interview with The New York Times, she said, “I’m a normal, nice person. A good person. I don’t have any bad intentions. And my past has to stay in the past.”

She recently opened a club in Mykonos and has been enjoying both financial and creative success as its owner. This is her third property in Greece, along with Lohan Nightclub in Athens and Lohan Beach House in Rhodes. Lohan also has plans to purchase an island in Dubai and open another property. In late July, MTV announced their newest reality show, Lohan Beach Club, has commenced filming at the Mykonos location and air in 2019. Lohan will be an executive producer of the show.

Lohan is also still actively seeking out film roles. She just completed work on the British series, Sick Note, and recently optioned Tina Seskis’ novel, The Honeymoon. Seskis was scheduled to visit Lohan in Greece this summer to being working on the screenplay together.

It would seem that life away from America and her own infamy suits Lohan, but the Instagram Live video says otherwise. Viewers speculated that the actress was drunk or high or both, and commented that she was still a party girl at heart. Days after the incident, a source told People that Lohan still drinks and parties constantly, and is “a nightmare to those around her”.

Last January, Lohan returned to the States to make an appearance on The Wendy Williams Show and expressed her newfound passion for helping refugees. The Instagram Live video is an attempt to document her humanitarian side, but instead she is left crying on the street.

Although owning and operating nightclubs probably is not the most sustainable career path for someone attempting sobriety, it is still disappointing to see the beloved breakout star from The Parent Trap fall back into her old destructive ways. This incident has stirred up significant interest in her public life once again, meaning her MTV show is already off to a good start.
